Some Oromos essentially became Ethiopians, changing their names and other pieces of their cultural identity in order to live among the dominant culture with less discrimination.
For example, some Oromos changed their names to Amharic names to increase their chances of being hired by employers who normally discriminated against hiring Oromos.
Their military organization made them one of the strongest ethnic groups in the Horn of Africa between the twelfth and nineteenth centuries.
Gada was a form of constitutional government and also a social system.
Oromos were not allowed to be part of the ruling class. The decision of authorities in Ginchi to clear a forest and football field for an investment project triggered protests in at least 400 different locations across all the 17 zones in Oromia.Security forces, according to witnesses, shot into crowds, summarily killing people during mass roundups, and torturing detained protesters.:) The day I joined Ethiopian Personals, I started receiving messages from lots of great guys.
